Our school district awarded a contract to a company to install our new district wide radio system. However, I have some concerns about their installation and the information they are telling me. Reason for concern, they just guessed where the repeater towers were when aiming the antenna and told me if you have problems, then we'll be back to aim again.
Basic overview of the system. We have just installed a 450mhz radio system with one repeater, probably going to two or several voting receivers. Installed was one commandstar lite console with one dccm, a tone interface and a motorola radio (unknown model at this moment). We have one repeater channel and several local channels. Not too much of a problem just having only one channel to monitor, but this becomes a problem in the next setup.
Our second commandstar lite has been installed with a single DRCM, a tone interface and a xtl5000 consolette. This is a digital 800mhz trunked system where we are using several channels that our sheriff office has allowed us to use. Problem here is that we have our Admin channel and then 3 bus dispatch channels we must monitor. More channels are there but those 4 are the critical ones.
First question I have is, why do I need 2 consoles? The console I have read has an add on module for digital radio connection. The first module allows the first 4 spots on the console to take digital radio connections then if a second module is installed then it takes up to 8 connections. So why can't I put the DCCM on the 5-8 channels and have only one console?
Second, the basic setup idea going into this project was to have multiple DRCMs so we could monitor multiple channels at once when we needed to. So at night we can "select" the bus channels and listen to them and then during the day "deselect" the bus channels to avoid noisy chatter. Can 3 more DRCMS be put on the digital console using the single xtl5000 to monitor those channels? Or do I need seperate xtl5000s for each channel I want to monitor. If I need seperate xtls how do I chain them together to connect them to the consol as the console takes a single telecom 25pin connection?
Third, could this be possible with the 450 system to program the DCCM's to use multiple channels on the single radio connected? Or is this one where I need to get the model of the radio for better answers? Like I said above, this one is not critical because only a 4 of our 60+ buildings are within local range.
I appreciate any and all help that can be given on this. I appologize for having to ask these probably basic and easy questions, but I am new to radios as my background is really computers.
