If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

XTL5000 consolette paired with MC3000 problems

Hi all,

Searched quite extensively with no solution found. We recently acquired an XTL5000 consolette (W7) with a handful of MC3000 remotes, along with the digital junction box required to interface the two. The consolette has the reauired AIB installed as well. These came straight from next door (our PD upgraded and gave us their old equipment) and were all working when pulled. However, I’m suspicious that this was possibly a backup consolette they had, as I’m not able to get audio to pass effectively. Some of the remotes have very faint audio when yelling into the mics, but not usable. I have receive audio and the buttons work correctly.

Additionally, these have pre-existing cat 5 cables from the radio location out to the location of each remote. Previously, we had an old, basic 4-wire setup that has since been removed.

I’ve searched manuals, forums, everywhere, and have no luck. Any ideas?

I have, but thank you for the suggestion. I’ve read through the XTL5000 consolette manual and the MC3000 manual several times but can’t seem to find anything out of the ordinary. All jumpers seem correct and all dip switches appear to be correct, too.

Just an update that may spark a little conversation - I’ve unplugged all of the desk sets from the digital junction box except for one. When that single one is plugged in, it works like a charm. I added a second, with the same result. As soon as I added anymore, it would revert back to the same problem. I should add that the digital junction box is set for “master,” and I do have a second one that is set to “slave.”

I did read in the MC3000 manual that all of the desksets ship with line terminations active, and that if I have parallel desksets, to only terminate the furthest one. What is this referring to?

I’m just very perplexed that it works with one or two desksets but then reverts back to poor audio once a third is introduced.

I ended up figuring it out and getting everything working properly. I finally got ahold of a cable analyzer and found that there was a problem cable that was causing a short, therefore causing issues in the junction box. Make sure all your Ethernet cables are 100% good to go for these installations!

Totally get it.

I have one of those cheapo Klein ethernet testers that sees every ethernet cable I employ before it goes into service. Won't catch an issue like crosstalk or interference, but at least it finds shorts and wiring mistakes quickly. The cable analyzer comes out if I'm still having problems beyond that.

Glad you got it sorted.
