If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Newbie programmer here... So I apologize for any weird worded questions. I've got 10 XTS 1500 Portables. All the basic stuff is programmed already (channels, light). I have a few questions on this now.

1.) I've programmed the Emergency button on top to be the "Emergency Button" It works when its depressed into Dispatch. Is there a way to make it show up on the other XTS portables? If so, how?

2.) All the XTS portables have the Motorola lapel Mic that also has the Orange button and the "+" & "-" buttons on it. Where do I go to program those to work. Right now you press them and nothing happens. I couldn't find anywhere in the software to change those buttons.

Again, sorry if these seem like silly "easy" questions, but I'm learning as I go. I appreciate any and all help on this!

1 - What type of signaling are you using? What you're describing is possible with MDC signaling. See Radio Wide > Emergency Alarm Rx Indicator Type and MDC System > Advanced.

2 - What is the EXACT model number of the mic? Here is a compatibility chart (page 2): http://mrose.org/p25/High Tier Remote Speaker Microphone Comparison Matrix.pdf

I'll look into the MDC part to see if that is the problem.

The EXACT model is: RMN 5038A which looks to be compatible. So I just need to know how to get those buttons functioning.

To allow other radios to hear a audible tone when ones Em is pressed it would need to be emergency alarm rx enabled. For mdc and astro you would need to go into radio wide I believe and I forget which tab off head but there is a tab and in it a check box for emergency alarm indication. Check it to on. Then make sure in your astro and analog mdc it is enabled too in mdc. Usually checking the radio wide one will enable automatically those but make sure. If there is a display version on radio and mobiles checking this will allow a I'd to visible and sound alert. Also in the radio wide section of that tab make sure you put the setting in drop box to display and audible so even if your handheld don't have a display and mobiles do it'll do both audible and display. This will ensure if your radio is a display model it'll show the display. Each radio must be programmed to rx the audible and display. Obviously display wouldn't work if you didn't have one on yours but it's a handy rule to just set the programming same to display and audible for Em rx. The commander mic I am not sure as I never used one yet or we don't use them. I'm not sure if it is a flash option for the radio for controls. I would imagine if it isn't that newer cps would have the external mic or controls tab and it's configuration under the main tabs. Also if the radios are not above firmware 7 it wouldn't do rx Em just tx rm. I imagine yours are well above firmware 7. If you are fire there is a emergency evacuation tone option also in the cps. Once checked in that radio wide I believe to use it make sure everyone has it checked to enabled and then press the Em button and ptt the same time. It will send a audible and display similar or exact to the Em I'd and rx sound.

The fire evacuation tone set use to be a flash option but noticed newer radios it's there without a flash listing. But possible still it would have to have that flashed option to use it.
