If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So, I recently purchased an XTS2500, and I'm having difficulty finding the CPS for this radio. Just got off the phone with Moto, and they informed me that they no ;longer have it available as they no longer support the radio. Looking for a resource for this CPS, and believe it is the Astro 25. I'm also wondering if I can locate it, if it will run on Windows 10, or if I'll need a different OS to run it.

It will work fine on win 10 in compatibility mode. In my personal experience an aftermarket USB cable worked better on win 10 then an a serial cable with USB to serial adapter.

Its flawless on win 7 though, but i know not everyone keeps an older computer around for radio programming.

You don't even need compatibility mode for ASTRO25 CPS, works with Win11 just fine too. But, I use a genuine USB, not USB with Serial Adapter, nor a 49'er "usb" with Serial Adapter built-in cable.

The Astro 25 Portable CPS for the XTS2500 is also compatible with the XTS1500 and XTS5000 portable radios but not the XTS3000 portable radio. The last version is R20.01.00 and is downloadable from their software archives. The program is compatible with Windows 7 to Windows 11 operating systems with a RIBless USB cable.

The ASTRO25 line (XTL/XTS) never required a RIB to program. In fact, you could build a programming cable with any scrap USB 4-wire and the proper connector.
...or you could use jumper wires and go from RS-232 (if avail) to the accessory connector on an XTL, in a pinch.

Or you can easily purchase a programming cable either USB and/or DB9 style for either the "W" or "O" series control heads original OEM or aftermarket new or used from numerous sources relatively inexpensive.

Not sure where you're going to plug in a DB9 on an O series head?

The only place you can plug that type cable into, the "O" series controlhead microphone port/connection.
Oi vey, here we go again.

There is no place on the O series control head to plug in a DB9. The "controlhead microphone port/connection" you speak of has a GCAI connector which looks nothing like a DB9 connector.

I suggest you take a look at Chapter 2 which shows the various O series control head configurations and what ports they actually have.

C'mon, seriously? The DB9 connects to the computer port and the round connector to the O5 controlhead microphone port.

Looks like we had a little bit of a misunderstanding. When I asked where you were going to plug a DB9 into, you replied that you plug it into the "controlhead microphone/port connection" which everyone knows is a GCAI connector not a DB9.

Now that you've clarified that you actually plug the DB9 into your computer, it makes much more sense.

I got rid of my O5 control heads years ago.

BTW, it's still easier and cheaper to purchase the rear accessory connector and make your own combination serial/usb cable for programming.
