XTS 2500 CPS version...

I have some XTS2500's that came out of a storage room in my office building. They aren't compatible with the (relatively) new site, so I am planning on reprogramming them for talkaround as a contingency or to hand out to the users that don't really need to communicate with other groups (custodial staff, etc), but still need regular comms.

I have a significant stack of Motorola software disks from my organizations past radio administrators ranging from old floppy disk with RSS to CPS 6, but I don't know which would be compatible with this radio. I assume one of them had to have been, unless the vendor programmed and provided them.

When I force programming mode (PTT + Emergency Button) it reads: FlashZap Bootloader version R01.02.20. Intel W18-B 4MB

I've tried CPS6 but I get an error that says "Couldn't open port". I know the port is good because I can swap it with other models and they will read/write just fine.

So, I assume I'm just not using the right software. Is there a way that I can determine which CPS versions are compatible with the radio?

ASTRO 25 Portable CPS R17.01.00 is the most recent version for that radio.

You don't need to do this to read or program the radio. You take the chance of bricking it by putting it into that mode.

What kind of licenses do you have? You shouldn't just be programming anything in the radios that you don't have authorization for even if it is just for simplex talk-around.

Thank you mm. It looks like the only thing I have in terms of Astro would be RSS. Guess I'll have to give it a shot and if not, dig around the storage room on Monday to see if I can find something newer.

Ah ok, I didn't realize I could brick the radio that way, thanks. So far as the licensing goes, I do have the assignments for the freqs I'd be using.

RSS was never released for the ASTRO25 line so I wouldn't waste my time trying it.

You'll have to contact Motorola 1 (800) 422-4210, get setup on Motorola Online and then fill out a licensing form. Once that's submitted and approved, you'll be able to purchase the CPS required to program the radios.

Astro RSS will never work, it was only for the older Astro Saber and XTS3000.
