• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good evening all. Im a first time radio programmer and am programming my XTS 2500 via the CPS, and I have a couple questions.

1) I am trying to set the radio up so that it transmits an id when I key up. What is the best way to do this? Also, are there any character limitations as to what i can and cannot use?

2) Trying to set up the radio for narrowband seeing as most services I work for or communicate with have either narrowbanded or are about to very soon. I think I have it figured out, but I just want to make sure. Im viewing the channels table under the zone view, and im seeing a drop down option of either 25 or 12.5 kHz under the "Tx Opt Channel Spacing" column. Selecting 12.5 kHz in this column will narrowband the channel appropriately, correct?

Thank you to everyone in advance for your help.

Do you want it to transmit an MDC type ID, a DTMF style ID, or a P25 digital mode ID number? You can do the MDC and DTMF at the beginning, end, or both sides of a radio transmission in analog mode. The P25 mode will transmit the ID number throughout the time the PTT is depressed. Either way, each channel has a personality set to it, and you have to go that way. Gone are the easy days of programming radios. But each section of a personality will have a choice for MDC, DTMF, or ASTRO, which is the P25 digital mode.

With the narrowband, you want the section where it lists either 2.5 khz, 4.0 khz or 5.0 khz transmit deviation I belive it is. Select the 2.5 khz, which will then show the 12.5 khz in the section for channel spacing. If you go to select the area where it shows 12.5 khz, 20.0 khz or 25 khz, it may show an eyeglasses looking figure, and will not allow you change the setting there.

That should start you off in the right direction. Others will chime in and give you more detailed advice as they are more experienced than I. :)

Id want a P25 style ID. I went into the personality for the channel I want the ID on, and I cannot see where to set up the transmit id.

If the radio does not have Soft ID, you will not be able to do it if your looking to send an Alpha type ID in P25. That can be found under the Astro Configuration, but only if that feature is turned on. If it isn't turned on then the tab will not exist.

If you just want to send a P25 numeric ID, that is under the Astro System under the General tab.
