• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Im in need for a new battery for my XTS 3000.
With the different choices out there, what battery do you guys recommend buying?
I need to have the radio on for about 8 -10 hours.

I also prefer the hi capacity 4000+ mah lithium batteries. They're a bit pricy but well worth it. If you ever upgrade to a XTS5000 you can keep your battery and use it on that.

Remember, if you buy a LiOn battery, you will need to use the Impres, or tri chem charger, as most chargers are only Nicad, or Nimh. The above mentioned chargers do LiOn too. If you are using the radio for a hobby, & not public safety, you could save big bucks by buying an Empire BLI-6034, 4200 ma LiOn battery. Lasts as long as the real deal, & was much less $. Perfect fit on the radio too.

Update:

4500 mah LiOn battery finally arrived. It has been charging for well over an hour now on the tri-chem rapid charger. How long should it take? It's brand new. Charger works well and fast on all other batteries.

Leave it til it turns green..The initial charge is most important to get the full capacity it may take a while as that is pretty much the largest battery made

I've seen Moto batteries take all night for the first charge on an Impress charger. Let it sit as long as it needs, it's the first charge and as FFPM says the most important (been using Moto batteries for 20 + years).

Took almost the entire night but I just let it be as you guys suggested. Now, 7:00am, I'm on my bus for my 10 hour shift. Let's see how long I get. I know there is always a break in period.

Noon time: Battery was EXTREMELY hot and so was the back plate of the radio. Had to take it out, let it cool and restart. Display was out. Once it cooled, the radio was back in action. Wonder what is up with that?
I thought it was that I had it sitting on top of a candy wrapper by accident that was lined with aluminum foil. Lol...
