• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just got an xts3000 today and when I try to read it in cps, I instantly get the "communication with radio failed" message. Anyone know what the problem is. The software is r05.03.00

There are many other postings on this. It usually gets down to a cable, software, or operating system problem. Windows XP or 7 32 bit with a true serial port and ribless cable usually give good results. Using an USB adapter to serial port is almost guaranteed failure. Forget Windows 8 or 10. Check other postings and you will likely solve your problems unless it is a defective radio.

Does it have something to do with the age of the software?

Check the version of your software and check the version of your radio. The software needs to have a higher version or it won't work. If that's not it then check to make sure that the driver on your cable installed properly. If it still doesn't work then make sure that you are using the software for the 3000's and not the 5000's.

So I tried running it on a virtual machine since the problem was windows 7. In the xp (virtual machine), when I clicked read radio, it beeped and went 1csq however a few seconds later it stopped and the computer said radio failed to comunicate

Ok so then it's probably your cable. Are you using USB or Serial? Also, I don't recommend programming radio's with VM's. Windows XP is best but 7 should work fine.

So I've heard that it only works on xp or 32 bit windows 7. I have 64 bit so it won't work. As far as the cable goes, my freind is letting me borrow it and it works totally fine for him. It's a USB cable and I know the driver works since the radio beeped.

How do I check the version of the software it was last programmed with?

This is currently what is going on: I have R05.03.00 running on a windows seven computer on the virtual xp pc. The radio is on a cable attached to a USB adapter, which works just fine with all of my other xts radios. When I click read, the radio beeps, and displays csq1. A second later however, the computer stops reading and says communication with radio failed. Anybody know what to do? Thanks!

I used to do that with Microsoft's XP Mode VM. You have to go in and align the com port but USB to serial never had issue (specifically with Astro Sabers and XTS3000s). Now, since I was issued a new computer...with Windows 10...I have told my customers I've stopped supporting those radios.

How do I align the com ports?
