• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I know this has been discussed before in the past . There really any difference in havening a 3000 on a P25 vs the 2500 or 5000? I hear that a 3000 not recombined on a p25 trunking system with some current 2500s and 5000s are still in operation. There any reason why a 3000 would not work properly on a phase 1 system. Even with the correct firmware on the radio.

3K's need a special version of firmware and will only work on 800MHz P25 systems with a certain bandplan.

Better DSP with 2500/5000 vs 3000. But the best reason of all is what your system admin allows on system as most are requiring newer radios like APX.

That's all true, but the 3000 with the 9600 baud firmware 6.72 i believe will still operate on a phase1 system with other xts radios on the system reliable? As long as the alightment and all has been done?

I used an XTS3000 on a P25 Phase 1 Harris system every day for about three years, without any issues. I had the only two Motorola radios on the system, never had any issues. The other radio, an XTS2500 never seemed to get used, not for any reason other than I had four XTS3000 batteries and only one 2500 battery.

But P25 Phase 1 is an open system, it can be a Moto, Harris, Kenwood system, doesn't matter what radio you use with it if it is programmed properly. You will need the correct firmware however to get the XTS3000 to work on the system.

The 3000 is an ancient, 20 year old platform. The fact that MSI could even get 9600 baud trunking to actually work with a mere 1MB of RAM for the radio O/S is surprising.

I run a 7.16 system and have put a 3000 on the system, just to show someone it does work, including failsoft, selective inhibit both in live and passive, and it did work. That being said, even with the 6.72 HOST and (most current) DSP (which is now 12 years old), it still sounds like crap and 5000 on it's worst day with early HOST/DSP 5.xx sounds better.

As someone else said, it's what the admin allow.

Thanks for all the informative information. I do remember the 3000 on the 3600 Baud system on P25 sounded like pure crap. I recall I heard one years ago on a 9600baud system wasn't no where near as bad. When its all said and done the new APX radios will be discounted for something new. That's how Motorola is.

Got a 3000 yesterday model 3. I had one in the past and it sounds like i remember. The audio not bad for say some people have alot of bass to there audio. Then you have some that bout blow you out the room. Yes by far the 2500 audio is smoother. The 3000 is better than nothing. Now i have a 3000 along with a 2500. Lol
