• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Was pretty simple to build. The hardest part was keyboard surfing LOL
Housing is from china which got here in 5 days, the internal keyboard and rubber keys are factory fresh.

yea but does it work as a Model III? You can change the keypad and will still work with the home center and TPS button but do the number keys work?

In order to actually make the radio work properly as a III you would have to use software which you are not allowed to have. My suggestion is that you should not discuss this kind of "conversion" here on this forum.

...or he's legally done it. I'm not one to speculate.

How would that be accomplished? If you ask Moto to upgrade a model II to a model III they will not hang up on you but they will say "We do not offer that service.".

Some things should not be discussed on this forum. Upgrades that require software and firmware you can't buy would qualify as some of those things.

There's no legal way to do it. As Elroy said, Motorola will tell you they don't offer that service and refer you to a sales rep who will offer to sell you a Model III.

Firmware is the same between the various models so that's not an issue.

The software used to convert the radio is an issue.

Frankly, and not to be a jerk about it, who DOESN'T have III with FPP these days? They're common as dirt. By now MOST of the 5Ks in the wild have been hacked/flashed, whatever. It's getting hard to find one that has a flashcode that matches the original label.

The tools needed to do these changes got out a LONG time ago and of course everybody will give them to "just one guy I really trust who won't give it to anybody else" and that's how it got to this point.

That still doesn't change the fact that, to reuse a phrase, "You do NOT talk about Fight Club!". Gee. I wonder where I last saw that phrase in print? Hmm...maybe nearby?
