• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I just purchased a used XTS5000, and when attempting to read the radio with Astro 25 Portable CPS V R20.01 I get this error: "Attempting to unpack Distributed ILS block Scan List but no corresponding header block found in image."

When read with the Tuner R05.04.04 there appear to be no errors. It returns this:

I can't read the initial codeplug from the radio. I would like to save it as is before changing it to my programming. I come from the HT1250 and CDM world; this is my first XTS. The radio itself appears to be fine. I have no idea where it came from or what system it's programmed for. Any help or guidance would be awesome. Thanks!

My guess is a bad corcorrupt personality.
May not be anything to save.
Try writing a new codeplug, program, and see what gives.
Looks like your firmware is OK.

That goes against my habit of saving the original when I get my hands on a radio. However that is my next step, except I don’t have any codeplugs for an XTS 5000.

If anyone could point me in the right direction of a basic xts 5000 uhf2 that would be great.

For you to use another codeplug it has to be the exact same model number and flashcode
Yes. This. @jetskiman98 - I also just purchased a couple of 5000's and started using CPS. Best thing to do is "Read Device" first and then make changes from there... rather than writing a codeplug alone without reading the device first (not sure if that's your issue, but it worked that way for me).

what happens if you click OK?
Nothing. The radio goes into programming mode fine. The CPS shows the status bar in the bottom left, then it says complete. I get the cool Astro25 splash screen and then this error pops up. Clicking OK dismisses the error but the CPS acts like nothing has been loaded to it.

Really sounds like a corrupted codeplug as a result of a failing EEPROM. As these radios are approaching two decades old, the EEPROMs that retain the codeplugs do "wear out" from background writes that occur as the radio is used. I usually just swap the VOCON board but this requires tools and service skill well above this forum.
