• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I recently got a XTS3000 and i was wondering what program i would need to program the radio for a fire scanner, i live in shelby county in Indiana. they use a 800mhz frequency and i believe a trunked P25 system.

I would get a scanner instead. It can be done if you have the equipment but a legitimate radio shop won't program one.

It would take software from Motorola and a cable for the radio. With that being a radio capable of transmitting I would NOT do it. Could cause safety issues with county system.

And a system key and the proper Flashcode in the radio.

Additionally, the Astro25 Channel ID (Band {Plan) in the XTS3000 is fixed in that there is no user configuration possible. Therefore, the band plan in use on your system would have to match the XTS3000's default or all bets for NAS are off.

With IPSC cracking down on illegal radios on SAFE-T, I would advise you to use an Unication, or an actual scanner.

It can be programmed to not transmit, but if your software knowledge is limited to Chirp, forget it. Chirp is fine for simple analog radios, but does not work with any digital mode or commercial radio. Motorola is also known to protect their intelluctual property aggressively and it is very expensive

Sell the radio and get a scanner. Someone with your knowledge will absolutely mess something up with a trunked radio system if you think that chirp programs an XTS.
Get a nice 800MHZ scanner and call it a day. Put the XTS up on eBay it will save you a major headache.

Like others have said there is a steep learning curve to programming a commercial radio for p25 trunking..This is a good start video that I learned from.

Unfortunately that’s not going to be much help since he’s got an xts3000. It’s a good bet that it doesn’t have the right firmware to do P25 trunking.

Yeah you are probably right..The 3000 is not the best radio to start with.I think it requires a different CPS then the other XTS radios and it may not have the right flashcode to do what the op wants to do.The concept is still the same explaining nas. After the op sees all the steps he may decide to get a SDR radio like sds100 or a Unication. That probably would be in his best interest.

CHIRP works with lower end radios and DMR. It doesn't do P25, or NXDN that I know of. Motorola ASTRO-25 CPS is not super cheap, and yes is very advanced compared to basic Ham radio CPS.... And if you get pirated copies and get busted using it, you batter have a dream team of lawyers.

Why would he want ASTRO25 CPS for an XTS3000?

Batter up!

The Anytone radios listed with Chirp are not DMR, just like all the other radios that Chirp does work wuth.

Firmware is also not easily changed as you need a specific version to do 9600 P25 and you need a SmartRIB and a service RIB-Radio cable. God help you if you have an old analog only XTS3000. Unication pager is your best, safest option.

Just buy a scanner, this will save you jail time on numerous felonies. Criminal defense lawyers want their money up front.

Let's suppose for the fun of it...you legally purchase the required setup (i.e., cable and software), get it all installed, configured, and fire it up--BAM!, password enabled. I've come across several big M radios with passwords.
