• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a XTS 1500 H66QDC9PW5AN uhf DOD Q split radio. I use it primarily on a allstar Node at 433.1
It has Firmware R09.00.41 and tuner R01.08.12. The CPS will take the programming in the ham band and write to the radio without issue.
I can TX at 446.0 with no issues locally. Is this a boat anchor ?
One issue I am having is the radio works for a time and then I get a solid TONE emitting continuously until I turn off the radio.
The issue happens when I'm on the node at 433.1

Isn't a Q split 380 to 470MHz? That should work fine at 433 and 446MHz.

Q is 403-437MHz.

The radios will usually go out of band a bit, but get to far and the VCO will unlock and the tone will sound. Sounds like 446.0 is right on the edge and it wobbles in/out of VCO lock.

Not sure about the XTS, but on some older radios you could retune them to squeeze a bit more range one way or the other.
Other option is to swap out the RF board. But getting the correct RF board usually requires buying a whole radio, at which point it's just easier to program that one up with what you need.

Q on astro25 radios is 380-470mhz. That model will most definitely do 446.mhz

I've bought clean XTS2500 model 1s with a 380-470 split on Ebay in the $40 range. You can also get full keypad model IIIs in 380-470MHz with FPP and AES for about $125 all day long. No need to suffer with a radio that won't do the entire amateur band.

On a Jedi it is. 4 splits to do all of UHF. On Astro Sabers, XTS3000’s, & newer, 2 splits do all of UHF.

I believe you, but one of my manuals shows the XTS1500 Q as only 403-437…. Maybe it's old.

After further checking, it appears the vco is unlocking or I have a bad capacitor
Radio is going to the parts bin, not worth selling.
Thanks

Looks like there are differences between the model nomenclature and the specs. This manual, p. 15, says the "Q" in H66QDC9PW5AN means 403-437 MHz range, but page 18 says "range 1" radios (FCC ID AZ489FT4865) are 380-470 MHz and page 19 says "range 2" radios (FCC ID AZ489FT4866) are 450-520 MHz. Pages 20-24 show only "Q" models as 380-470 MHz and "S" models as 450-520 MHz.

[Add] Just to expand, the model nomenclature shows 4 UHF bands: P=336-410; Q=403-437; R=438-482; S=470-520. There are also H and T "Product Specific". Not the first time I've seen this sort of thing.
