• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I’m wanting to program my XTS1500 to alert for Quick Call tones on our dispatch channel. I understand that I will have to create a separate personality to do this.

My question is, will I still be able to transmit MDC on this channel while having it set to alert for Quick Call? I’m not seeing any way to enable MDC to transmit in the personality when I have it set to receive QC.

Nope. It's either quick call or mdc. Option is to make a channel as page rx only for quick call, or quick call rx with capability to tx (no id obviously).

Then make your channel 2 the mdc perosnality.

You'd probably be better off setting the one channel as quick call 2, with tx capability which will have no mdc or id, or set it was page rx only then setting the next channel as your mdc tx rx channel.

Thank you very much. That’s what it looked like it had to be when I was looking at the personality settings, but I thought I had read somewhere that it could do both.

Thank you for answering my question!

I never tried it but I know the waris series, ht1250, 1550, cdm one could select the rx and the tx signalling seperate but I never thought of trying tx mdc, rx for qc2 tone.

I may just look at it later to see never crossed my mind.

Yeah it can definitely be done in the Waris series (that’s what I’m more familiar with). That’s how I have our department radios set up. I just started using an XTS about 6 or so months ago, and I haven’t learned the ins and outs of the software yet. As for the radio itself, I absolutely love it. Much more durable and reliable in my opinion than some of the newer stuff for what I use it for.
