• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

XTS2500 can't enter zone name

My XTS2500 (Flashcode 5A1018-10178C-5) has 12 zones. On the "Zone Channel Assignment" page, under the "Zone" tab, the first zone shows as "Z1". However, zones 2 through 12 have no name in the zone field, and the software will not allow me to enter a name.

Likewise, under the "FPP/Protection" tab, the first zone has "FPP Enable" checked, as does zones 2 through 11, but zone 12 does not allow me to check "FPP Enable". I get the little blue eyeglasses icon when I hover over it.

How can I remedy these issues?

If your channel text size is 12, you will not be able to use zone names. Decrease the channel text size, or live with it as-is.
The channel text size is indeed set to 12, yet the first zone is shown as "Z1", although it's greyed out.

Right, which is expected behavior. If you change channel text to 0, you can set the zone names up to 12 characters. Change channel text back to 12 and the zone names are once again greyed out, but the previous text remains. No mystery to it.

Makes sense, thanks.

Do you know why I cannot check "FPP Enable" for zone 12, when in all other zones FPP is enabled?

Does Zone 12 have anything in it? IIRC, FPP requires one personality per channel (this one I'm sure of), and also has some weird requirements that all FPP zones must be consecutive. I wouldn't be shocked if that was also true of personalities for some reason. The whole FPP setup process in CPS always felt clunky to me.

I bet if you delete it and re-create Z12, it'll let you enable FPP. (But definitely keep a backup before deleting it based on the hazy recollection of some guy online.)

Yes, zone 12 is populated. Zones 1 through 11 have FPP enabled, but zone 12 won't let me click the check box. When I put the cursor over it, I get the little eyeglasses icon.

I remember that happening on my 2500 too, never found an explanation as to why except FPP is very weird in how it works. If you don't  need FPP in that zone just leave it as is or move your channels to an FPP zone
