To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone know where I can store MDC id info with their alias? For example, right now a unit keys up there mic it will show:
ID: A431

I would like it to display:
Sgt. Walker

I found where I could put a list of MDC calls with their id but I am limited to 50. Is there somewhere else where this can be set up?

thanks,

1) What version of ASTRO are you using

2) Make sure the number coming up on the radio is the MDC Code, not the Alias.

3) You can only assign on Conventional Personality/MDC Personality per Channel. So if the limit is 50, then that is it.

1. I am using Astro R12
2. It is the MDC Code
3. I am not sure what you mean here...

Where does one put the Aliases? Do they go in the call list? Will this transfer the alias so that it shows up in place of the mdc?

I am more familer with the CPS on the HT1250 (which in my opinion is much easier). But the setup is so much different.

OK, so first, establish your MDC Personality. Then, build your MDC List with Call ID and Call Text. Default will be Unassigned|CALL 1.

Select the Conventional Personality you want to use. Go to the Signaling Tab, make "Signaling Type" MDC, System Number must equal the MDC System you want to use. Then go to the MDC Tab under Conventional personality, make sure MDC Call List is selected.

That is what worked for me in the past, but i am mostly CDM/HT 1250 user. I hate the ASTRO Software.
