To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi All,

I recently started working on an xts2500 and I am having an issue with quick call 2. I have a personality set to decode quick call 2, however the radio refuses to acknowledge any tones. I have attached pictures of the settings in the personality and in the quick call list. I have two sets of tones I have been trying to decode and neither has worked. I have tried checking and unchecking many boxes in the personality with no avail (Selective call decode vs. call alert vs in-call user alert). Would anyone have any ideas or thoughts on what could be changed to make the radio properly decode tones? My best guess is that there is a box I forgot to check, but I am stumped here.
The personality is receive only and non-astro.

This radio is on the latest firmware/dsp/etc.
Finally, for reference, I am trying to monitor the channel, and have some form of audible/visual alert when it decodes these specific tones.

Thanks,
Katt

I am unsure how to find the 2 tone timing. Where would I start in finding that?

As for scanning, I stay parked on this channel with scan disabled.

Ive had issues with xts portables where the dispatch console does not modulate the signal enough and it doesnt trip the radio but does alert other radios or pagers.

Katt,

I program QCII with the unmute as "AND" on channels that have an RX PL/DPL. Does that fit your situation?

Are you trying to alert on the one you whited out or the second one that we can see? If it's the second one, make sure you set you 'quick call ID list' to '2' in your personality configuration. Also, are you sure your tones are correct?

I am using the second set as testing set because the first did not work. I only have 1 Quick call ID list afaik. Should I create a separate list for the second set of tones? Finally, I have confirmed that my tones are correct.

I changed the settings to create two separate systems and its appears to be working now. Thanks for the help! It appears it was mostly user error on my end when I was changing the call list instead of the system. I will do some additional testing and hope it works from now on.

Katt,

Also, try as cmjonesinc indicated to change the QUIK-CALL II CALL ID LIST on the QUIK-CALL II tab to 2.

Unless of course I'm not remembering how qcii works on those radios. Perhaps list 1 is correct and it just alerts for any tones on that list. If that's the case list one has tone set 1 and tone set 2 and either should decode. If so, I would wonder if the tones are correct? Did you get the tone values from a known working radio / source, from a random list on the internet, from decoding with a scanner, or something different?

Katt,

Good to hear. The QCII stuff always messes with me as well and I program radios with that frequently. I generally do not though deal with the XTS's any longer. But I guess it is pretty much all the same.

I did get the tones from a known working pager, which is why I was so confused that it was not working.

I have not worked with an XTS2500 before so this was quite a learning curve here.

Yeah that software can be a bit overwhelming at first. If you can't get it working and want to pm me a copy of your codeplug I can take a look at it.

What's your channel bandwidth set at? Feel like I remember that being a problem with decoding at some time in the past.
