• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,
Our fire dept is having some problems with our XTS2500s. We are on the statewide P25 700Mhz trunking system. (We are authorized to be on the system)
It seems that someone wiped out some channels programmed on the radios.
The last time they were reprogrammed was sometime in July. They were working until 2 weeks ago.

As you turn the channel knob through those channels, you can see the name of the channel ie. FD-ABCD1
If you sit on the channel for one second, the name goes away and displays UNPROGRAMMED and you hear a bonk.
There are 8 Channels programmed in that zone, and it only does that for the last 5 channels.

Is there anything we can do to fix this?

How many radios is this happening to!? Normally I would say that's a hardware issue that resulted in the codeplug being corrupted. However, if it is happening en masse something else could be at play. If you, your agency, or your city/county/state has a contract with Motorola, I would send the radios in for depot service.

It's happened to two radios for sure. One on the call, in the zone with the ambulance.
Then, the day after it happened to mine in another zone with other fire depts. there was a call for the other dept i'm with so I just switched over to that channel and it did that.

From what i'm hearing, the other radio is fixed, but mine is still giving me problems. I'm not sure if the other radios are like mine on the fire dept zone or not.

If you have access to CPS, you could try re-writing the codeplug into the radio, if there is some kind of transient software problem that's causing the issue here the fix could be that simple.

Has someone other than an authorized system admin or state approved shop done any programming work on them?

Long range, sight unseen diagnosis is an exercise in speculation. That said:

Since you are an authorized user of the trunked system, I'd start with a chat with the system administrator. It sounds to me like the system is using an ID masker. Your radio goes to a talkgroup just long enough to send an affiliation ISW, which is being rejected.

@ bezking, Would it mess with the trunking system? Would I also be able to program NON trunking analog
frequencies into conventional zones without it messing with the trunking settings?

@ FFPM571, No, we have two programmers that did our programming, Our 911 center, and our sheriff's office.

Thanks for the quick responses

its possible that if your statewide system has OTAP that the units may have had those particular personalities deleted. The other possibility is that you have somehow loaded an unprogrammed channel into the scan list.
