To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We pulled in a few xts2500s. Firmware is latest that is out.

A zone was added then cloned over to the others.

All seemed fine. Then users reported no MDC at times or at all on some channels. So we went through checked, double checked, nothings out of ordinary.

Threw back in the prior plug and MDC was displaying.

Dug deeper down to comparing and tuning and all checked out fine.

So figuring a clone issue we added the zone one by one to the few radios. No problem.

Skip forward few days later a couple model 3 2500s with version 16 firmware popped in for the new zone. No fpp just for dtmf pad use.

Decided to program one manually, other 2 clone and the third a drag and drop.

After they all exhibited the no mdc issue on some channels.

Checked, double checked compared plugs, tuning, every thing checks out.

Threw back the original plugs in and mdc worked fine displaying id's.

Manually added the zone to each one and no issues.

Went ahead and played around with one 2500 model 2 latest firmware and after few writes it exhibited the no mdc displaying on some traffic to all traffic. Experimented with cloning, drag n drop, manual all would end in same problem. Wrote back the original plug and problem gone.

It's last cps version. While it'll be moot come summer since we are going APX and got those going ready to hand out has anyone seen this issue before?

It has me pondering if it is a programming issue with the pc itself. All writes come back as succesful.

My next thing is to try it from another unit and see if the cloning and drag n drop have same issue.

I figured I'd ask as I never encountered this before.

The radios in question are at 30 zones, most at 16 channels per zone few zones being up to 20 channels. They are bravo units at 8 Meg BN versions.

Never seen this issue before. Thoughts?

Both. I don't believe it is a firmware issue. The model 3 units were at 16 version. However the cloning, drag and drop did originate from a unit that was at 20.50.09.

It still wouldn't account for the model 3 units which didn't get a drag and drop from that one.

Check your DOS settings and see if they are duplicating properly thats about all I can think of if your positive it is not a firmware issue which it sounds like it is not. The only other poece of advice I have with out having the radio in hand is to manually check the original codeplug against the duplicated one and make sure your settings are transferring properly.

I went ahead and tried a few changes to a working unit wrote to it and the mdc issue existed adding a channel. Got to be pc related or corrupt plug issue pc is causing.

Originally we were worried a issue with the voting system existed so we went down there trouble shooting that with confusion.

I think it's time to call MIS and toss this particular pc. Tomorrow I will try another pc or laptop. Strange however the 2 5000s aren't having a issue at all from a drag and drop, or write.
