• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey guys,

Right now, we have the XTS3000 and the XTS1500 in the office. We need to get a couple more radios, and from the provider we have, they mentioned that the 3000 are now obsolete and have EOL. They recommend getting the XTS5000, but honestly, that is a bit overkill for what we need.

What sort of Motorolas would you recommend on 800MHz to integrate with the old XTS3000?

Thanks!

A used XTS3000. There are plenty around for sale by reliable vendors that have been surplused by city/county/state agencies that are not hacked. GARY N4KVE

If you insist on going to the XTS family, then try going after the XTS2500. It will do all that the 3000 will do and more. The major difference in the 5000 is the additional encryption modes it will do and the type it can have. You probably don't need any of that.

You might even look into going to a Kenwood portable. They will be cheaper.

Well, wo don't incist on XTS, it's just what was setup here in the first place and what people were trained on. But the 2500 sounds like a good radio. I will have to check it out. The Kenwood, what model is comparable to the 3500/2500?

Thanks again.

The encryption modes are identical. The XTS2500 can to ADP (with the proper flash), AES, and DES/XL-OFB just like the 5K.

The main difference are the accessories and batteries. The XTS uses a different public safety speaker mic and a different battery style than the XTS3K and 5K which are the same. Also there is a slightly lower channel capacity in the 2500 as well, but only by a few hundred. I have tons of the XTS2500's deployed in a public safety environment and they work just fine

If the OP is only analog in 800 MHz he can look at the MT1500 or XTS1500, which has the same form factor as the XTS2500, is just as rugged, and he can save around a thousand per radio. He will still need to buy different style spare batteries and PS speaker mics if he uses them, but it will work out cheaper in the end. Like the 2500's, I have MT1500's deployed as well and rarely seem them come in for repair.

Yea, go with the 2500, can't go wrong. I mean you can go with a 5000 but you will be paying out of the *** for it. And by the way, I believe the Kenwood TK-5210 and TK-5310

The XTS1500 can do digital and ADP if needed. If you only have a choice of Motorola, and currently have 3000's and 1500s (and 1500s are adequate), I would buy more 1500s if money is tight. Good luck.
