• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Question - as easy as it may seem.

Is what I have pictured referred to by M as a housing "kit" - flex, knobs etc.. as compared to just a housing which has nothing?

From M, housing = $52 / Kit = $300+

Id like to change mine but $300 is a bit much at the moment. (and I had a heck of a time trying to take apart that control knob assembly, so much that I put it back together until I can read up some more).

Thanks all -

IF you buy the complete kit with the speaker and flex from Panter its as easy as removing the antenna, opening the case from the chassis and unpluging the flex. Then reassemble. It takes literally 5 minutes.

I have also. When opening the case do not use a screwdriver, Motorola makes a tool to open the cases. I have a link to a webpage that goes into exactly how to change a case.

Thanks for the input, Yep, I ordered the white tool a while back, works well.
I inquired to p88 about having 5000-3 housings and he listed a few right on the spot.
Ive bought from him before with no issues at all.
Thanks again -

I hate to revive an old thread but I saw you guys were talking about panter88, he lists the housing kits as used but only shows the front and back. No side shots, that worries me as I had a bad experience buying a radio once with a crack on the side. (Seller deliberately didn't take side shots to hide it)

Anyway, I emailed him on eBay and he didn't respond. I don't want to fork over $100+ and then have to deal with the international shipping nightmare to Hong Kong.

Has anyone bought these "used" housing kits?

Aside from being used in public safety perosnal use is best for the refurbished new used unless it can be inspected and vouched by a technician.

You will get a clean housing fron him no cracks. Unless he specifies otherwise on the said item you shouldn't have any issues. He backs his work and will replace problem items minus the shipping back to him, though I know his high end customers some highly noted people here have got free shipping or replacement without sending broken one back but these aren't one time or handful time buyers.

I guess I should throw this in, while some of his items in past were from certain factory issues which those links csn be found here on the topic a lot of what he gets doesn't pass quality control a lot times petty M reasons. They discard and auction off or toss out those items. He buys them and fixes them to specs. He isn't a back door tech and knows what he is doing along with his staff he has. The repairs he does are consistent to a tech in factory to resale the items. Many items are in a sense overstock he got from auction sources or removed from upgrade units and he resales them. He stands by his work. You should be ok.

He is. He use to switch back and forth between 2 or 3 seller names adding some 8s to the name last I knew.

Another decent seller I would suggest those to look at within the states is vccode7 or snarlingrabbiddog.
