• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Right click on for help file. If you saw the help file it would state

Rx Modulation (Trunking System, Advanced)
Selects the receive modulation type for the current Trunking System. This field is for use in trunked systems that allow Two Level Secure Receive or Four-level Recovery for Extended Distance (FRED) operation. This field affects SECURENET voice only. Rx Modulation should be set based on the expected secure voice receive format for the trunked system.

This field allows the user to configure the radio's system for strictly binary (2 Level) secure receive

Only accessed: When the Secure Configuration Secure Equipped field is enabled.

The trunking system your are currently editing is Astro25. SECURENET is utilized on Type II trunking systems.

There are no Type II systems in PR that this setting is necessary for.

You are certainly doing it all wrong. Do a LOT of reading about NAS scanning before you even power this radio up with an antenna.
Blinky red light = radio is trying to affiliate with the system. "BAD, VERY BAD"

"BAD, VERY BAD" Describes this well. The System Admins will eventually see your radio since it generates an error in the log files every time it fails to affiliate.

Best case is the Admins "stun" your radio, turning it into a paperweight/door stop. Worse case is a FCC agent, with local law enforcement, tracks your radio down and shows up at your door with a fine book and shiny silver bracelets in their back pocket. It really depends on the problems caused and the moods of those involved.

Ohhhh ....David, i LOVED his instructional videos.

So did I. In fact, I used them in a presentation I gave to fellow area system managers about how to identify possible infiltrators into our systems.
Amazing he would confess to such crimes and knowledge on video like that, but shows you how brazen some folks are. FAFO to the max.

I imagine it went something like this - "The prosecution would like to show you an exhibit marked as Item 1. It's a video in which the defendant does all of the prosecution work for us, and then we will rest our case."

As time goes on I'm getting progressively happier with Harris radios. They give you actually "safe" options to scan without affiliation and not too many tricks needed to do it.

Why Motorola has never quite figured out that enabling a true RX only mode would actually be beneficial for them and their customers is beyond my capacity to understand.

A certain percentage of people are going to do it anyway. Might as well make it easy for them to listen with no chance of affiliation which most of them would prefer to do if at all possible.

But we're talking about a company that still doesn't seem to understand that their Advanced System Key also ensures that many surplus radios make it to the used radio market while still active on their original system, and with no "legitimate" aftermarket means of deprogramming them. Which is a huge security hole.

If they were really smart, the CPS would always have the ability to delete trunking data without a system key. Key required to retain or add data. That's how it SHOULD be.
