• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a couple of questions about programming my XTS5000 regarding the scan feature.

1). Is there a way to program a specific scan list per zone? I have two scan lists, but they seemed to have been randomly assigned to a couple of zones. The radio came preprogrammed from whom I purchased it. I do have the programming software, Astro 25 Portable CPS.

2). Is there a way to set the radio to only scan when the Three Position Toggle switch is set to scan? For example, I set mine to scan when in Position C; however, this seems to do nothing. The Zones that have scan lists assigned to them (as mentioned above) scan regardless of where I put the Three Position Toggle switch.

I know I am missing something in each of the above items, but can't seem to figure it out. What I want is a few scan lists, but each assigned to specific zones, AND only when I set the toggle switch to "B" (which I have set in the program to Conventional / Position B (I have Position A as Unprogrammed and Position C as Talkaround/Direct for those channels I have set to transmit (GMRS, etc)). No other setting is set to scan (I read that having two settings do the same function may cancel out each other).

Thank you in advance.

In CPS you need to assign the Personality to the specific scan list. So, say you have 3 unique Personalities across 16 channels in Zone 1, all need to be assigned to Scan List 1 (example only). Then of course, the Scan List has to match. Also, check the Personality (or Personalities) and make sure "Automatic Scan" is checked off. If checked on, the radio will ignore whatever you have programmed the toggle for.

Awesome. That did the trick. Thank you so much. :)

Now I am realizing I need more personalities than I previously thought.
