• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules.     If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

If when you plug an USB cable in, and no COM port appears, and the CPS has no communication from the radio, it's an DOA cable right? I am planning on getting another one and was wondering, which is best: USB with FDTI chip, or old fashioned Serial one? Both my XTS5000R's are FPP enabled and I successfully added a few freqs to both of them that way, but want to go further into the settings and load them up. I have ASTRO 25 CPS, and am very familiar with programming radios, so just want to make sure I get the best set up to proceed with. TYIA!

Awesome, I have his store on ebay saved, just trying to decide which cable is the best. I also love how cheap his prices are!

I second BlueMax49. Always good stuff.
But if you have a usb/serial adapter that has served you well a serial based cable will work too. It does get interesting finding a reliable usb/serial adapter.
FTDI is usually the way to go.

The older Dell Laptop has an serial port, as well as 4 USB ports, and the Dell version of an HDMI (PITA finding the cable for that lol!). My newer HP has 2 USB 2.0, a USB 3 (C), and HDMI. So who knows, I may actually eventually get both. :) The only thing I don't like on the new one, is no built in CD/DVD, so I have to run an external player/drive for that, but the touchscreen makes me care less about that. It's like complaining about how no cell phones now use earphone plugs it's all BT. LOL.

Historically his prices have been cheaper via the website rather than eBay, since obviously on eBay you have the pay the fees that eBay charges him too. Just as a heads up.
