• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

All,
I revenctly picked up a Motorola XTVA, and wanted to install it in a console. I'm partial to Jotto Desk, but I've heard their XTVA faceplate is not so great. I was checking around to see if anyone had pics of an XTVA installed in a console (havis, troy, jotto) before I have one custom made for Jotto. Please post any pics of an XTVA you may have, thanks!

I have installed many of these along with the tpl rf amps in many vehicles but never inside a console,
only on the outside of a console with the mounting bracket.

I looked over the troy and jotto desk web sites and troy does not list a face plate for this and
neither does jotto desk. jotto desk does list a faceplate for an xtva charger but that is not the
same thing as an xtva holder unit.

Just out of curiosity - why would you want to install an xtva holder unit inside a console?
It seems to me it would take up a lot of console space when it could be mounted else where.

I have one installed in a Havis console, but the XTVA is so oddly shaped, that nothing really looks good. The closest fit in a Havis console is the C-EB40-MXT-1P. It might fit in other consoles as well if the width is 6.5". It will take up 4" of console space. I wish they could redesign the XTVA in a simple rectangular form factor like the old Convertacoms.

What you see in the picture is just plain angle brackets, so there are gaps, and I couldn't put screws in the right side because it didn't quite reach all the way to the edge of the track in the console.

grondo, thanks for the pic.

fineshot, as for why, i'm not sure. I've got some a faceplates, one for a radio, and one for a scanner. i like the finnished look using the plates, and getting one for the xtva will keep that going.

Troy's part number is FP-NTN8560-E and the cutout is contoured to the XTVA to cut down on the gaps, not squared off. Sorry I don't have a pic.

Thanks for pointing out my missing that on the faceplate list.

They do have it labeled wrong as "Motorola Charger NTN85".

I'll speak to them and have them change it to "XTVA" instead of "Charger"
as this is a misleading label. The Motorola NTN8560E is the holder unit.
