Programming the BC796D. The manual isn't that informatible. Any beginners instructions would be greatly appreciated.

You'd be better off getting a software pkg for programming the 796. Sure, it can be done via the keypad, but it's extremely time-consuming and as you've discovered, the manual is less than helpful.

I personally use ScanControl http://www.scannersoft.com/ and others speak highly of ARCxxx series http://www.butel.nl/

You'll be glad you did!
