Believe the answer is no. IIRC, the FT-101E (and EE, without the speech processor), had two positions for filters. I had CW and SSB filters. Believe that they affected receive only. You should be able to transmit AM without the AM filter, but your AM receive will not have the fidelity of full AM bandwidth.
