I had an old VX-150 modified before for extended TX abilities and at one point it over heated while charging and ruined the radio.... unsure if it was a defect or if it was caused by the mod. I recently did a mod for extended TX to my FT-270R radio... you guys think the same thing will happen? I am scared to charge it lol...

Very simple, DO NOT transmit out of band,or not at all if you're not licensed to do so. The vx150 and the ft270r are not public safety radios if this is what you thought? Both radios are intended for amateur radio only.

I never once mentioned anything a about actually transmitting. Even if I did I have proper ties to do so. I'm purely questioning the over heating issue that occurred on the vx150 after a mod was done. Just wondering if I should worry about issue happening on the FT-270

NO ONE has authority to use amateur radio equipment on public safety frequencies, so you do NOT have those ties.
The Federal Communications Commission would be happy to explain to you how that works if you're not aware of the rules.
It matters not if you are a leo, firefighter, medic, or donald duck you do not have the authority in spite of what you may have been told.
So yes, your shiny new ft270 may fail from final transistor failure due to transmitting where it's not designed to. :)
However you may listen all you want with no adverse effects.
I'm sure your FD or rescue service can rustle up a extra motorola or kenwood for you.

Dang dude. Calm down. Again.... I NEVER said I was going to transmit. I do have a handheld that is for public safety. But even if I did use the ft-270 for transmitting no one would even be able to tell so it's not going to kill anyone. Thanks for directing this post to a completely different topic. To the other poster... Do you charge your battery in the radio using the power cord that came with it?

Oh and for the record. It's not my "nice and shiny" new radio. I've had it for a while. Only did the mod today...

Again. Thanks buddy.

Actually it's very easy to spot a ham toy radio on a commerida repeater.
Ham radios don't have reverse burst, aka squelch tail elimination, and their presence is easily detected on the transmit signal by the squelch noise burst emitted.

Get a part 90 radio and don't jeopardize your agencies license by bootlegging with a ham radio. Their cheap anyway.

As far as your OOB mod, unless you went crazy with a soldering iron, your overcharging issue is a design fault with the cheap wall charger Yaesu includes with some radios. The manual does tell you not to leave them connected for more than 24 hours, as there is no over charge protection. But it would kill the battery before it gets the radio, unless a power surge hit the wall wart and put excessive voltage/current into it.
