I am attempting to manually program my Yaesu FT-60 to communicate with a repeater. I am able to hear transmissions, but am unable to transmit, so I suspect a problem with transmission frequency shift. The shift is suppose to be 5 MHz, but my Automatic Repeater Shift is set to 3MHz. When I try to follow the manual instructions to change the shift from 3MHz to 5MHz, after I press the PTT switch to save the change, it APPEARS to be saved and a test transmissions was successful; however, when I power cycle the radio and go back to check the shift value, it has reverted to 3MHz and I am no longer able to transmit on the repeater. Suggestions?

How did the shift get set to 3MHz? That's not on the list of options. :p

Did you follow pgs 19-20 of the manual, exactly? Just figuring out what exact steps you took.

You can also try manually programming the split, see pg 28.

If I knew how my shift value became set to 3.0M, I wouldn't be seeking answers from the kind and knowledgeable folks on this forum.

I am referencing the YAESU VHF/UHF DUAL BAND TRANSCEIVER FT-60R OPERATING MANUAL and following the Repeater Operation instructions on pages 19-20. While the manual states that "the shift may be 1.6 MHz, 7.6 MHz, or 5 MHz", when rotating the knob to select the desired shift, the numbers range from 0.00M to99.95M. I select 5.00M and save the value by pressing the PTT button. The display returns to the name of the current channel. If I then recheck the shift value, it is 5.00M. I am able to transmit successfully; however, if I turn off the radio, the frequency shift reverts to 3.00M.

I used programming software I purchased from RT Systems to download the settings from my radio to the software, where I saw that the one repeater station I was trying to use was set with a non-standard offset of 3.00M. I changed it to 5.00M in the software and then downloaded the changes to radio, which now reports an offset of 5.00M. Hopefully this resolves the root case, but I'm still puzzled why I couldn't identify and correct this issue manually rather than programmatically.

I own an FT 60 and that is a new one. Glad you got it sorted out. I find the FT 60 to be the easiest to program from the front, but using RT systems for multiple repeaters, or for changing everything up..works very nicely. I like to use RT over CHIRP....I know others like CHIRP and that's fine. I just like RT for its more thorough programability of the radio.

You have to enter your frequency into the vfo, then set all your settings including the 5Mhz offset, when you have it all setup, program the frequency back into a channel. Then when you turn the radio off and back on, all the info should stay the same.

I guess you missed my emoji ( :p ). I am also confused as to why one of the options is 3 MHz. That's a new one.

I am also referring to the manual. It is obvious that your radio is not following the US default menus in the FT-60, for one reason or another.

Good to hear you have a work-around, though.

I don't have RT - is there a remote chance that one can modify the default selections for ARS?

I have used FT-60 Commander to successfully program my FT-60. It is free and worth a try.

One question is this the North American model of the FT-60R? Has it been moded?

That's what I'm thinking.

I have used FT-60 Commander to successfully program my FT-60. It is free and worth a try.

I use Chirp, and have been debating on trying RT (may get one for my wife, so it would be justifiable for two FT-60s), but forgot I had read a snippet about FT-60 Commander. I'll give it a shot, too.

I have also used Chirp. Both programs are decent, especially for free. RT obviously has much more and I use it for my more complex radios (FT1D, ID-91AD, etc.)
