Greetings to the list,

I'm contemplating purchasing a Yaesu FT-60R. The radio has a lot of features that are quite appealling, especially the wide receive ability.

Question: on the scanning side, how well does it perform? I'm inclined to sell my Icom R-5 and get this one (the FT-60); that way, I'll have the best of both worlds (dual band amateur transceiver and a wide-receive scanner).

If anyone on this list has one, I'd definitely appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,

Czar

Hello Czar,
I tried to answer those questions about the FT-60R in your other post in rail scanning. Drop me a line or PM if you need more info.

can the ft-60's pager function be programmed to operate the way say a minitor pager can? I see in the specs it mentions a pager function.

Nope. It's set to use a sequence of DTMF tones I believe.

Correct. DTMF paging between hammy radios only. Keep in mind these are NOT type-accepted land mobile radios, they do not have functions like LMR gear nor should they be used in place of LMR equipment.

I'm using one right now as a 'scanner.'

I like the audio quality and the alpha tags.

It does scan a bit slow, but I can live with that.

I currently have the software and programming cable enroute.

If anyone has any ideas on mods for this radio, I'd appreciate a PM.
