I have a Yaesu FT-710, and would like to use it on AM. I searched everywhere for the recommended transmit settings for AM, but hit the wall. I came up empty. Not one post for AM on the FT-710, but thousands for SSB and data modes. Does anyone with an FT-710 use AM and would be willing to share the AM related settings?
The problem I have is the transmit audio level is extremely low. Almost none. SSB seems OK. At this point, I'm wondering if there may be something wrong in the radio.
I tried using 2 different mics. The stock handheld mic that came with it, and a Heil electret mic (ICM) with the appropriate adapter cables.
Thank you.

Looking at the owner's manual, I see instructions on page 40 for adjusting the microphone gain and "AMC" gain when using SSB or AM. AMC is Automatic Microphone Gain Control which appears to be a fancy name for compression. I'll assume that you've gone through those settings to try to increase your AM modulation.

Something sticks in my mind that those newer Yaesus are notorious for low audio on AM, but you also want to make sure your resting carrier power (with no audio input) is no more than 25 watts. If your resting carrier is over 25 watts there isn't enough headroom for a 100 watt PEP radio to make 100% modulation.

I have no issues with low audio on AM with mine. Note that Mic Gain, Mic EQ, Mic Processor, AMC Levels are all saved by Mode. Might want to check those settings after switching modes.

25w is the max "resting carrier power" for the 710.
