Trying to program my FT-7900 with frequency of 159.0675 and the radio just won’t do it. What am I missing?

I’m trying to dial it in manually in VFO mode. Can key in 159.055, an set the STEP to 12.5, but when I turn the dial it jumps to 159.0625.

I don’t have a programming cable. I could get one and try programming with Chirp or some other software, but I’m worried the radio won’t accept the frequency that way either.

Nope, channel spacing is 12.5/20/25 kHz. Source here
Well now I’m more confused, cause I’ve got a Kenwood TK-2180 that can definitely hit the 7.5khz splinter frequencies, and the spec sheet for it also says 12.5 kHz.

What exactly am I looking for in a radio then? Or is there a list/wiki in the forums somehwhere?

Do not confuse channel steps with channel bandwidth.

Newer Kenwoods will do 2.5 kHz steps (which of course includes 7.5 kHz) along with 6.25 kHz in VHF but not in UHF (6.25 only). LMR radios do not publish minimum channel steps because there is no VFO. Newer radios already accommodate all valid frequencies, older ones not so much.

Take your frequency and divide it by the channel step. If it doesn't come out as a whole number it won't program.

Oh, and a PM400 VHF does 2.5 kHz steps also so it will program your frequency just fine.
