I'm considering purchasing a new mobile rig, and I can't seem to find any documentation of Yaesu's antenna connections for their 7xxx series and 8xxx series.

Can anyone tell me what adapter (if any) I would need to connect my PL-259 antenna mount to the transceiver?

Thanks & 73

Good radio!

MFJ makes a nice dual band antenna which comes in either PL259 or NMO connector at the base. But as the other guy said SO-239 is on the radio so you'll not have any funky SMA or TNC adapter issues.

My 8800R has an N type connector, so I use an adapter that is SO-239 and N male. I have a SO-239 chassis connector, but have just been too lazy to replace the N connector on the radio.

I've never seen a 8800 with anything other than a standard SO-239.

agreed. They are all so-239s. Excellent radio by the way. I have two 7800s, one mobile and one in the shack.

Why would you bother? The N connector is a much better connector. I'd lose the adapter, and put an N on the cable.

Even if I have the only FT-8800R in existence with an N connector, it still makes you wrong, because there is ONE and it is in my truck.

However, you are correct about the 7800; I use that as a base and it is excellent.

You're right, it is a better connector than the SO-239; however, I occasionally change mount and radio combinations depending on what equipment I am running at any particular time, and the other radios I use on that mount all have SO-239s. Good call, tho.

I wasn't aware that the 8800R came with a factory N-connector. Or did it?

Awww man, you caught me. Yep, when I unsealed the box I immediately opened up the radio and replaced the SO-239 with the N connector, in anticipation of responding to this post a year later just to confuse everybody and hijack this thread.

God forbid you actually are unaware of something.

Did some digging and it turns out the "export" version comes with an N antenna jack from the factory.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic or just a douche, but thanks for taking the time to reply to my question.
