I have an issue with the Yaesu FT-8800, when I connect the faceplate via its little cord and turn the radio on it just makes a clicking and slight popping sound repeatedly, every couple seconds and will not power up, No Display or any function? Has anyone else had issue with the 8800 doing this. It has been working fine? Any help much appreciated. Thank you

Check the pins on both the cord and the socket in the faceplate. Also make sure it's securely seated in both the control head and the radio body. You might also try a different interconnecting cable to see if that's the issue.

Can you confirm that shirt Faceplate cable is a 6 Pin special cable as I think I may be trying a 4 pin Tele cable by mistake?

I just looked and it is definitely a 6 pin cable. You can use a telephone 6 conductor cable. That is what I use in my mobile.

Yaesu has no consistency in the cables it uses for separation. Most, including the FT-8800 and FT-8900 use a 6 pin straight through modular cable, but others, like the FTM-100D and FTM-400XD, use a 4 pin cable and still others (the FTM-350AR and FTM-500/510) use an 8 conductor modular cable.

That is great to know that a normal 6-Pin telephone cable will work. I will find one and give it a try thanks again for everyone’s advice and input. I’m sure I’ll get to the bottom of it.

RJ-12 cord is what I used back when I had an FT-7800.

If you look at the short factory cable, you'll see it's straight through/pin to pin. Make sure the cable you have is correct, in other words, pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc. Some cables are reversed (pin 1 to pin 6, pin 2 to pin 5, etc….)

I have fixed my issue with my FT 8800. Those that gave me suggestions referencing the cord that connects the faceplate to the main unit were 100% correct. I replaced the cord with a newly purchased one and it works perfectly. I thank you all for your kindness
