I just received my new Yaesu FT7800R and would like to know if there is a modification to the power cord/system available that would allow use of a adapter where I could use an available 12V power plug in the car?

If the power jack puts out at least 9 amps of juice, you're in good shape. That's how much amperage the FT7800 uses peak.
I picked up one of these cigarette lighter adapters from Radio Shack and have been using it since day 1 with my FT7800. It handles 10 amps and has a replaceable fuse.
