Just noticed a considerable price drop on 2 popular Yaesu rigs that might interest some.

YAESU FT-7900R | 2M/440 MOBILE TRANSCEIVER W MH-48A6J MIC
Was $309, now $279

YAESU FT-8900R | QUADBAND 29/50/144/430 VHF/UHF TRANSCEIVER FULL DUPLEX
Was $389, now $329

Both have detachable faceplates with mounting kits included.

Maybe there seeing a slump in sales due to lots and lots of people purchasing cheaper radios like the TYT9800 and others that do nearly the same thing as the Yaesu's but for much less.

Good point, or they may be moving inventory because they have new models coming down the pike!

Great deal on the 7900R. It's a real workhorse.

Based on what I'm seeing at 3 different dealers, it appears these prices are with "discounts and promotions". There's no mention of mail-in rebates.

Given that the FT-8000 is now less expensive at most dealers than the FT-8800, I'm going to jump to the conclusion that the FT-8900 is being closed out. Just my opinion. Yaesu's product line is rich with mobile radio optionss right now (FT-1900, FT-2900, FT-7900, FT-8800, FT-8900, FTM-100D, FTM-400D), so my guess is that their product planners are reducing the line-up.

I was just in our local "parts" store and found that the FT-857D price went back to $824....it was $774. last week or so.

That was a rebate from the manufacturer. They come around pretty frequently, usually for the winter holidays and around Field Day.

Note that you'd still have to pay $824 up front, then a month or two later you'd get a check for $50 back. Still a good deal either way, just don't flub the paperwork if you want the rebate.

Well good to know the rebate comes pretty often. Missed my purchase window now waiting on next rebate window....hope it is in March. Would love to treat myself to a new radio on my birthday at a reduced price.

Dayton Hamvention is not that far off, and that is where the manufacturers like to introduce new equipment. There has also been a price drop on the FT-1DR Fusion radio at some dealers.

The FT-8900 is getting _really_ long in the tooth so maybe they're looking to clear them out and be done with the model.

Although, Kenwood's been flogging their TS-2000 pushing 20 years now...

Just left HamCation in Orlando. They had a new FT-8800 for $260. I just bought one last month for $370 at HRO. I'll remember that next time I want a rig so close to an event like this.

The FT-8800 is on discontinued/closeout, now retailing for $299. The FT-8900 stays in the lineup. No official word on what is replacing the 8800, just guesses a freshened look along the likes of the FTM-100. (but not Fusion.)

They had the FTdx-1200 at around $1,100 after a $300 rebate recently. That's close to what a used one goes for. If you can wait 8 weeks for Yaesu USA to process the rebate that's a steal.

The FT-1DR has been replaced with the FT-1XDR, so it's on closeout.

I see FT-1000Ds going anywhere from $900 to $1500 depending on condition and goodies.

I personally would avoid the FTdx-1200 mentioned above as you can spot them instantly on the bands taking up about 3X more BW on transmit due to IMD problems.

I had a friend with one exhibiting gross IMD on transmit where it would trash conversations up or down 5KHz and was well documented by many people with band scopes and panadapters. He took it to Yaesu in Cerritos, CA for repair and they claimed it had no problems and meet full specs. The man brought it home and it continued to trash out the bands until he sold it and several other FTdx-1200 owners followed suit.
