Greetings,

Does anyone know of a software program out there that will program Yaesu radios with an Apple (Mac OS) computer? The initial programming software was Windows based from RT systems and worked just fine.

I have tried three of the "virtual" programs with no success. The best way to run Windows on your Mac | Macworld

When I made the switch at home from Windows to a Mac about a year ago, we were living somewhere else, so my radios were alrady programmed for the area.

However, after a move and a new home 150+ miles away from the last location, I need to update the channel programming.

The radios in question are a Yaesu FT 897D, FT 50R, and a FT 8900 on order.
Welcome to Yaesu.com

Thank you for your time.

Tony

The easiest solution may be to get your hands on a cheap, possibly used, laptop that can run at least Windows XP. Use it only for programming your radios. Don't bother connecting it to your home network or the Internet and use a USB thumb drive to transfer files.

What software are you using? I am using Fusion 5 virtual machine to run Windows 7 Pro 64bit and RT Systems software for my Icom radios. Works just great. I also have the RT Systems software for my Yeasu FT-857D, FT-350AR and FT-7900R. I haven't tried them with the virtual machine yet, but I don't have any reason to think they won't work.

What exactly is the issue that you are having using the programming software virtualized? Are you sharing the USB cable to windows? If so, are you selecting the correct comm port in windows?

I use Parallels with win7 and do not have any issues programming any of my radios (Icom).

Another option is to use Chirp to program under OS X. http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home

Thank you Robert. I had thought of that, but neglected to put in the post.

Trying to avoid the extra expenditures to keep my other half content on radio hobby expenditures. :>))

Still have to get new antennas for the new location, after I get the radios programmed; and with 100+ frequencies for each one, I don't want to wipe out the memories just to manually put in the local repeaters - if at all possible.

Thanks again and enjoy that Indiana fall.

I'm sorry I don't have much to offer, but I'm happy to see some other Mac users here. I've been reading a lot about programming radios from a computer and I've been afraid to even search for Mac software fearing none is out there.

Maybe try a local club where another member can bring their laptop and program the radio for you? If it is just a one time deal then that is easier than figuring out parallels, boot camp, fusion, etc.

Mac Programming

Parallels works great with Windows 7
Have programmed using Yaesu Butel Chirp and others.
Even used USB to Serial with no issues.
Snapshot in Parallels makes it run Windows better than a Windows box (IMHO)
You will need to buy a Win OS of course, I use Win 7 Pro 32 bit.

I am using several RT Systems programs on Windows running on Parallels on my Macs. No problems whatsoever, and like prcguy said, fastest I've ever seen Windows run. Worth the price. It also lets me run my Windows crap right next to Mac stuff, so I have references.
