The VX-10 is basically the type Accepted brother of the FT-50, a great radio and is field programable once the mod is done, watch out for the power on/off button quirk in which case youll need to clean the circuit board contacts.

the VX-10 is more like the FT-10. VX-10 is type accepted, and has a voice scrambler option. Both VX/FT-10 are VHF radios.

you could program in the MURS frequencies

151.8200, 151.8800, 151.9400, 154.5700, 154.6000

More can be found on the WiKi and also here http://www.provide.net/~prsg/murs_faq.htm

If you live near the water, you may wish to program them for the marine channels.

You could also program the weather frequencies as "listen only" as well as local PD and FD in "listen only" mode as to be a dedicated VHF scanner.

Please note that you should make sure you dont violate any rules regarding the above mentioned ideas.
