I think I just purchased a VR-120 for around $75 to $85 used. Said to be in good condition with all accessories. Is this a good price?

Any comments on this radio would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks!

i am not expecting anything on the lower freqs. But I have high hopes for VHF-High. Only getting it to keep up with a few local freqs. I have other radios for real "scanning."

yeah-- thats a decent price. I bought a new Yaesu FT-60 for a little under 200 bucks with a charger. If you got all the accessories, radio etc for 80 bucks, you got a deal. The vertex/yaseu radios last forever (granted you dont leave it on top of your car and drive on the freeway with it... which i did with a vertex radio about 2 years ago). I am a diehard Vertex user. I work in EMS and also in a Machine shop and my radios get dropped and beaten to hell and back, and also get splashed with WD-40 and other coolants in the machine shop. Just take care of it and it will take care of you.

The only thing you might be concerned about is the batteries. It utilizes AA batteries from my recolection. If this is the case, spend the money and get HIGH quality lithium or NiMH rechargable batteries. Yea, it might cost you a lot in the short run, but you will end up saving a TON on money by not having to constantly buy disposable AA batteries.

I have a ClamShell (dummy battery pack that is loaded with AA batteries) for a back up incase one of my vertex commerical radios goes out while i am on the job. It is always loaded with the NiMH batteries.

Thanks for the comments.

I have a whole bunch of AA mAh Energizer 2500 mAh's that I use on the BCD396T, Pro-97, and Sangean ATS-909. They are good batteries. I think I have some Duracell's with the same mAh rating. All in all I have about 20 or more.

I am just waiting on it to get here now.

Thanks. I skimmed the manual but haven't fully read it yet. I want to have the radio in hand before getting too involved.

Thanks again,

am a proud new owner of the VR-120. I bought it used in good
condition. My question is regarding the scanning operation. I have a
couple banks set up.

Is there anyway for the VR120 to do the following:

Once it stops on an active channel, can you make it stay on that
channel until the end of the transmission or does it only have the
pause function 1 to 12 seconds?

Thanks for any info.

Welcome to VR-120

Look at page 9 of your manual. You have 3 options on how to set your scanner up for after a transmission. Looking at your scanners WINDOW, look in the upper right hand corner and see if there is a letter "B". If not, while you are in the scan mode, press and release the scan button. If the "B" is not blinking: after a transmission, the scanner will hold for how ever long you have the delay set for (1-12) and start back scanning if there are no more transmissions. If the "B" is blinking: after a transmission, the scanner will hold until you manually press scan or rotate the dial knob to continue with the scan. If there is no "B": when a transmission starts, the scanner will pause for about 5 seconds and then continue scanning (the transmission may get cut off). Anytime you want to change your setting, just press scan and release while the scanner is scanning. If you have any more questions, feel free to drop me a line at redmonds@carolina.net. Thanks for the info.

I am enjoying the VR120. I do not attempt to compare it to the Pro-97/2055 or the BCD396T because they are "scanners" nor do I compare it to my Sangean 909. But for what it was made for it is a great receiver. I really love the Dual Watch and PMS feature.

All and all, it is good buy for $75 I think.
