My VR 500 suddenly developed issues with the LCD display. Some of the pixels randomly disappear and re-appear.I tried doing a master reset but it didn't help.Any ideas?
Thanks,Dale
The two I own were made in March and August of 2009. I am not experiencing any issues like that with the screens. Based on what I have read on this forum and other sites, early models have this issue. I do not know of a specific year range and even the screens on mine may be the same, but not exhibiting the issue yet.
It's too bad there isn't a fix for that. They're great little receivers with their understood limitations. What is the first four characters of your serial number, or do you know the year it was made?
Mine is from 2001. So far the screen is still usable. Once it degrades to the point of being unusable, I'll open it up and try cleaning the LCD screen contacts (if possible). I recall reading somewhere that, over time, the contacts can become dirty. This seems likely, as I'm losing entire vertical sections of pixels and not random pixels.
Thanks. While I'm glad I have the option of sending my VR-500 to Yaesu for repair, I think a better option would be for them to acknowledge that this part is defective, recall the affected units, and fix them all gratis.
I bought mine new in late 2002, and the display failed just last year. I more than got my money's worth out of it over those 12.5 years. I'm glad Yaesu was able to fix it.
