Hello

I have just purchased a VR-5000 and have a question

The display shows for instance 7.1500 how do you set to fine tune as the last 2 digits are always 00 if your listening and the received communication needs to be tuned finer

Thanks for your help

Also depends on the type of modulation. Select SSB and the steps are much smaller. My 5000 is in a lockup at the moment so this is from memory (mine!) which is unreliable at the best of times!

Thank you for your reply

I am listening to ham transmissions in ssb but still I cannot fine tune lower than 1khz the display shows 7.14200 if you tune up or down you are tuning the 4 digit not fine tuning the zeros remain. I cannot understand the point of having the last 2 digits my icom ic-7400 the last two digits fine tune so the transmission shows 7.142.92 the audio is clear not sounding like Donald Duck

In the instruction booklet, it says that you can directly enter a frequency from the keypad, but then it shows that you can only enter down to 500Hz. The example they show is for 146.16250 MHz, but you could give it a try in LSB mode on HFand see what you get. I haven't used my 5000 on HF much and when I did it was to listen to Auckland Aero on 8867kHz so the loss of the smaller digits didn't worry me!

But wait, there's more.....

Here yer go - from the specifications....

Channel Step: Main Band
LSB/USB/CW : 20 Hz/100 Hz/500 Hz/1 kHz/5 kHz
AM-N/AM/WAM : 1/5/9/10/20/25/50/100/500 kHz
FM-N : 5/6.25/10/12.5/20/25/50/100/500 kHz
WFM : 10/50/100/500 kHz

...so it must be possible.

Perhaps you can't fine tune by turning the tuning knob, you have to enter the frequency and that's it. If you want to go up by 20Hz, you may have to put the new frequency in via the keyboard again!

You could try the Yahoo group - once you've managed to get through the Yahoo jungle!

The manual page 16, Step Selection, details the method to change the step size. The example shows going to a step size of 5KHz. It may go smaller than that when the mode is set to SSB.
