Hi, I was wondering if anyone has a codeplug file for the tri-state east coast area for this radio. More specifically Long Island/ NYC areas, but anything regional including NY, CT, MA, NH is ideal.

I have the software and cable, but since the published stuff out there has a lot of wrong info, thought it would be easier to start with a semi current template.

Appreciate it if you have one and if not thanks for reading.

ADMINS- If this should be in a different forum please advise and my apologies in advance.

That's what I thought too when DMR became popular several years back. I took a code plug from a member of my club to do the initial programming of my DMR radio. What I ended up with was a bloated pile of garbage that didn't fully meet my needs and to which I had to add a bunch of stuff of my own anyway. I really should have started from scratch.

Are you a member of a club? Is there one near you? This is where you find out what is currently being used in your area.

Yaesu VX-6 is not a DMR radio, DMR in the manual refers to Direct Memory Recall
That's not the point. The point is using someone eIse's programming isn't the best way to program a radio because you're liable to end up with a bunch of extraneous garbage that is of no use to you. You should build your own programming from scratch. I know the VX-6R isn't DMR. It just happened that the example I used involved a DMR radio.

My reply was aimed at the original poster, first time i have heard a FM repeater list refered to as a codeplug, just thought the original poster might think he could use the VX-06 on DMR

Right there is one of the things about amateur radio that just irritates the hell out of me. There is no consistent terminology. Everyone either makes up something or uses terminology from somewhere else. The worst is the use of a non-NATO phonetic alphabet. I spent many hours on the radio in the Navy so the NATO alphabet is ingrained in my subconscious. When someone uses non-standard phonetics (or "phoneyetics" as I call them) I have to stop and think about it. It doesn't come naturally. "Kilowatt" instead of "kilo?" Arrrgghhh!!!

Signal strength reporting is another area that need more consistent terminology. The RST system used on HF is ok, but the terminology used on VHF/UHF is all over the place. "Full quieting," "Five by five," "Making the trip;" the variations are endless. And what's with this "circuit merit" stuff? I'd never heard that one until I got into amateur radio. A simple "loud and clear" should suffice.

The word "codeplug" is a leftover from the early days of land mobile radio and pages, mostly Motorola. There was actually a physical plug that held the radio's configuration settings, parameters and frequencies. Even the acronym "CPS" is being misused. It actually means "Customer Programming Software" rather than "Code Plug Software" as most seem to think. "Programming file" is a more universal, easily understood term.

In closing, thank you for allowing me to rant...
