YAGI TUNING

I got my discone 20 ft up on the roof and i decided to add a yagi to pick up frequencies from further counties. I got up there installed it and of course i then decided to read the instruction and there was a section about tuning it. :?: i figured this thing was point and go.
if anyone has any clue how to do this please let me know. the instructions are rather vague and leave alot of questions (i.e what is gamma, and vswr). a neighbor told me that radio shack sells something to test the signal strength but he wasnt too sure about it. thanks ahead of time

I wouldn't worry about tuning the antenna if you are just going to use it for receiving.. For the most part tuning is only critical if you are using the antenna to transmit.
