The Yankton Federal Prison Camp has disappeared from its convental frequencies. Thinking they might now have a trunking system, I went on a search. I found a control channel at 409.4125, but can't get it to trunk. I am using a Pro-2096 Scanner. What do you think I should use for the base and off sets? Thanks.

You didn't say if it was a Motorola CCh. And if it was, was it a 3600 bps or 9600 bps CCh?

If it is a M36 start with this:
Base 406.0000
Spacing 12.5
Offset 380

If not try the following:
Bases: 406.1000, 409.0000
Spacings: 25 then any others

If it was a M96, get the Pro96Com software from the Pro96Com Yahoo group and run it with your radio, it will provide the data you need to set your table(s).

Ok, I finally have some info on the system. Its a M36 system, and founf another control channel at 407.0125. Also on my pro-2096 it says "M36:7442" then % being decoded. I is the 7442 the system id? Thanks. Havn't heard any talk goups on it yet.

Yes, the 7442 is the SysID. The two frequencies you have found almost guarantee that the spacing will be 12.5 KHz. And since it probably will be a single table, it will start at 380 (0x17c) so the only thing left is to find the correct Base Frequency.

While you are watching the display, if you see it flicker to a Voice channel and immediately return, that is an indication that you have the wrong table setup. If you see that, then you need to adjust something in the table, in this case the base frequency. If you can find someone to run Trunker on this system and get the hex value associated with either of the CCh's then there will be no guessing, but otherwise it is a guess, set and wait game.

Since you did not make any comment about anyone with Trunker available, I am going to suggest something, which probably won't work very well, but might give us some help.

Attached you will find a zip file, that file contains a beta of MTrunker ported to Windows 32 platforms. It has been around awhile and the person who did it over-engineered the input routines. The important thing about it is that it accepts input on the sound card and since this input routine was over-engineered it will work somewhat with a good audio signal from the speaker jack. This means you might be able to get at least the HEX channel value of the current CCh and report it back here. With that (and of course the real frequency) I can give you the table setup. If you are getting a good enough signal, you can let it run unattended to see if any activity shows up. The discussion of the beta software can be found in this old thread (note r00t is not supporting this product at this time, so adding to the thread will probably not get a reply):

Im going to install a discriminator tap on the scanner, so i can get all the data needed for this system. I have the parts and instructions for the install. Will hopefully have it completed tonight. Also, I take it the scanner is hooked up through the tap to the input jack on the sound card? Thanks for the help so far.

I have been trying too figure this one out as well here in Yankton. As of now the control channel is 410.2000 but changes just like kc0LOE said. When I read Lou's Message about mtrunker I thought I would give it a try just cold turkey without a data slicer and I get this output frequincy=868.5125,maybe someone can make some since out of this.
thanks

Monty, yes it does make sense, because this version expects to see a "nnnnMAP.TXT" file (where nnnn = system ID) with the proper Base/Offset/Spacing for the system. The thing is all we need is the actual HEX value assigned to the control channel and the actual frequency you hear as a control channel to figure out the MAP.

The long and short is this, if when you were listening to it and it said the CCh was 868.5125 (an odd value in any case), what was the actual frequency and what was the HEX channel number?

Hello again,
This is what I got from Unitrunker,I have the channel # set at decimal:
445-407.0125
544-408.2500
637-409.4125
700-410.2
716-410.4
If you need any more info let me know I am trying to figure out the base/offset so I can start tracking this baby.

that can tell us a lot,if you can not run pro96comm ??we will have to work on it,
if i did this right 407.0125- ((445-380)=65 x.0125=.8125)= 380 406.200 base

base 406.200
offset 12.5
Ch 380 Hex 17c

please correct me if i am wrong

It works!

Works for me.
I'm getting Site ID: 7442h when I hit "hold" while the 396T is scanning it.
Hot dang, just heard traffic!
The Federal Prison went P25! :D

(BTW, I'm in Vermillion using a Uniden 396T w/Diamond SRH77CA)

I programmed it as a Motorola UHF using:
407.0125 (control channel)
408.2500
409.4125
410.2
410.4

Base Freq: 406.200
Step: 12.5 kHz
Offset: 380

410.4000 is now a confirmed voice channel.

Talk Group ID's Seen Thus Far:
ID: 16 (on 410.2 mHz, 410.4, so it's definitely truck tracking)
ID: 48 (on 409.4125, 410.200, 410.4 and 408.2500)

Traffic heard:
("Operation" to "Control" the main food line is now closed) (I guess chow's over)
They talked a couple minutes about orderlies coming to "Control" looking for toilet paper! I guess dinner ran right thru them!
