Took my Element 2 test today, passed 35 of 35!!!!!
53 freaking years old! Just now got around to it!!!

edit:KI4JJO showed up on 3/25

Must give credit to HamTestOnline for making me study the hard questions over & over ad nausium. I could not of aced it if I studied just from a book.

I have no plans to transmit, but just wanted a ticket to shove up the "Man's" nose if ever hasseled for mobile scanning.

Now I think I'll try learning code , and then on to studying for the General .

I hightly recomend any scanner freak to take the Element 2 test. It is a piece of cake.

Congradulations! I'll be following later on this spring hopefully, but
I'm going for General w/code at first. For the exact same reason
as you, I might add. Plus I'm an electrical engineer by trade, so I
like to think of it as another feather in my cap.

Again, way to go.

Congratulations!

Getting a ham license today is very easy and all scanner enthusiasts should "go for it" just to be "legal" in areas where mobile scanning is a problem. Morse Code is not required for the Technician class which really makes it a breeze. And.... learning 5 wpm code for the General Class license is not difficult if you take it in steps and practice about 15-20 minutes a day for a month, or so.

I have met many good friends around the country via ham radio. It is a hobby that really opens up the world to you!

Thanks N-Jay

Also thanks to all others, just had to share....& brag a bit. Who better to tell???

But I already collect Tractors, computers , scanners & not to mention all the musical instruments & tube amps + massive sound reinforcement.

Plus I grow about 5 different varities of bamboo (so far). Some is giant timber bamboo.
(working on growing bamboo antennas[they are 6% silicon])

Did I mention OCD??????

I think I'll pass on the ham stuff for a while.

Maybe when I'm older & can't... er.....well....when my Friday & Saturday nights are spent in less amourous ways I'll start the xmitting.

All I gotta do now is remember to renew in 10 years.

(already started on my general studies)

First of all, "CONGRATULATIONS." Second, what is the website URL for the ham test?

 It depends how long it takes to get your actual license. I am a VE (Volunteer Examiner) in Central KY for ARRL, W5YI and WCARS VECs. Last month, it took 3 weeks for licenses to be issued through the ARRL. This month, it took only a few days through W5YI. Check the FCC sites daily and as soon as you see your name and callsign, you are legal to operate. Your license will come a few days AFTER you see it posted on the FCC site. The FCC site can be a pain to navigate, at times. QRZ.com is much easier to navigate and gets updated about a day after the FCC posts new licenses. On QRZ, go to QRZ.com and look on the menu at the left for "NEW HAMS". Check daily NEW HAMS because it updated every day.

Don't worry, W5YI will remind you!!! I just got the renewal notice for my license, due in May. Imagine my surprise when it came not from the FCC but from W5YI!

Hey thanks for that QRZ link.
I have set it as my (temporary) home page.

Who knows, I may get me a HT someday. But for now I just want my ticket to ward off the ever growing opressive government.
No mobile scanner probition in my state (yet) but then who really knows about the laws in all the cities we drive thru?
