Does anyone use the VX6R for air band monitoring and how is the audio?Have a VX7R and the audio is very low on the air band even with the volume turned all the way up.The audio is fine on any of the other bands.

Bike,

Good question! I am thinking about getting one myself, and I too want to know the same info - with the addition of UHF mil air monitoring quality as well. I had read in earlier posts that VHF airband was perhaps very very good.

As I've discovered, much to my dismay, some ham rigs that claim to cover the UHF milair band cannot change the mode from FM to AM - a quick note on the VX6R Yahoo group is in order. It pays to do research ahead of time to avoid the disappointments - and lost green stuff. :.>>

Audio

It seems to me like no matter what I listen to "air" freqs on, the audio is MUCH LOWER than any other station I hear.

I just wonder if they purposefully limit their audio on aircraft due to how far "loud" audio would carry with an antenna at anywhere from 5,000 to 35,000 feet !!!!

I have the VX6R. I can understand the air freqs, but, as you say, it is "lower" than what one would think it should be. But, on my Pro2096, it really isn't any better either....

Are you sure that you have the radio set to "AM" mode rather then "WFM" or "NFM"?

I am on mine. Don't know about his situation....Steve
