Words for the day......

WAIT FOR THE BEEP !!!!!!

Spread the word.....

The new radios require a channel grant BEFORE you can start talking. The radios (mobile and Portable) will BEEP when it is OK to talk....

Start getting used to waiting .5 second (at most, thats 1/2 a second) before you start talking on your current radios.. This will go a longggggg way toward transititioning to the new system...

Radio distro is coming by the end of THIS summer !!!

Tip #2

Remember the new radios are DIGITAL. You are probably asking "So what, A radio is a radio". For the most part you are correct, You turn it on, adjust the volume, set the channel and listen. So far analog and digital are the same. BUT when you push the PTT (push to Talk) button a lot changes.

First of all you must ?????? (fill in the blank) Hint: see last tip.. Beep !!!

Thats right, WAIT FOR THE BEEP

This tells you that YOU have a channel to talk on and that the other radios on your talkgroup are awaitting YOUR transmission.

SECONDLY, you*** MUST *** talk INTO the microphone. if you talk AT the microphone your voice may not be loud enough for the A to D converter to work. A to D is analog to digital or Old to new.. This is what makes your voice a digital signal to be transmitted over the new Digital system..

In a nut shell... Push the button, listen for beep, talk into the microphone.... Let off and listen for a reply.

End of tip #2.... more to come
