Okay....the nice lady that answered the phone up Rose Fire Company actually had said Ops 4, but her function was (I believe) EMS, so maybe fire uses 5 and EMS 4? Either way, the question is answered--the individual volly companies apparently don't get a dedicated TG...

No, there isn't a private talk group for each fire department with the exception of York City - they have a handful for their non-emergency operations. There is, however, a dedicated talk group for each police department (go figure, the director of the 911 center and chairperson of the radio committee is an ex-police chief). There are also 21 tactical talk groups for law enforcment. There are 11 for fire. A bit lopsided? Yeah.

The person you talked to at Rose Fire Company is actually correct. DCR_inc was wrong (as was I). Calls in station 58's area (fire and EMS) originate on OPS4. A general rule for the south end of the county (south of the Route 30 corridor) is that departments located east of I-83 are on OPS5 (east fire/EMS ops) and departments located west of I-83 are on OPS4 (west fire/EMS ops).

FYI. Based on issues raised here, I brought this system to the attention of the "boss". He has opted to remove the custom frequency table entirely from the listing and would like it if someone who previously had a problem with downloading the system would download it again after the change is made to see if that fixes the auto programming issue. If not, it may be a bug on the Starrsoft software side.

If this is in regard to the download of system type "P25 Manual", I experienced that problem and will be happy to download again. Say the word.

I was hoping somebody who has York County programmed on a BCD396XT could help me out. I downloaded the database from RR and everything appears to work okay. However, on occasion (usually after the scanner has been on for awhile), it no longer picks anything up. It is continuously scanning through the talkgroups but not stopping on an active channel (I know the channel is active as I have a York County MA/COM portable radio). If I turn it off and then back on that usually takes care of the problem. This is rather disappointing because I never know for sure when there is a lack of activity if it is because there is just nothing going on or if it is because I now need to reset the scanner. Does this problem sound familiar to anyone with a Uniden?

Can someone help me with with a 2096 setup? What do I enter for settings to get this system to work correctly?

This is ripped from the centralpafire forums. Once you have the system frequencies stored correctly, you need to tweak the custom table info. As far as I know, this can only be done manually.

I shared this info with a friend by phone and it worked for him. A few weeks later, I programmed a Pro-96 for someone and can't remember if I had to use this sequence or now.

"Once all those freqs are entered in in one bank, you need to verify the setup info. There is a slight change from what is listed above. I found the correct sequence of button pushes is as follows: From the scan mode, press: PGM | TRUNK | FUNC| 2. You should then see: Base Freq, Offset and Step. By just starting to type, you will start to change the Base Freq. Enter in 500.0000 and press ENTER. You should now be at Offset. Once again start typing '0' and ENTER. Now Step is blinking. Using the up/down arrows, select 12.5Khz. With out doing anything else, press FUNC | 4 and you should get a screen the says: Use up/down keys..... Using the arrows, select "Table" and press ENTER. Now if you press SCAN, your PRO96 should start to scan the system and give you audio showing the MOT: (talkgoup ID number) on the bottom of the display."

I also have the BCD396XT. I have the "York counties" One I downloaded from someone’s 996, one with all the Freq. in one site and one with everything copied and pasted from RR to each separate sites. Each one works different for me.

The biggest thing for me is I “miss” transmissions

Example:
I’m only using the south site, sitting at home in new freedom.
I can hear my engine go out on Ops 4 no problem.
I can here 89 units on Ops 2.
But I can’t hear a med patch on YH1 or 2 or the 154.280 patch.
I listen one the west site and I get YH1 and 2 plus the 154.280 patch.
Those are my biggest problems.

I don’t know 100% how to help, because I’m a definitely a novice at the new P25 scanning, but I would say if you programmed it before Christmas w/RR then try setting an YC2 up and see if that works better.

The other thing you could try is updating the firmware.
BCD396XTFirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki
This was also helpful. Uniden Bearcat BCD396XT Police Scanner Radio

I’m just glad someone else has a 396XT.
Hope this helps!

If there are NO "registered" radios on the system for the talkgroup you are scanning, The system will not send the traffic to the system. IE: If you are on OPS 2 and you are on the central system, You will hear OPS 2 on central. If someone is in Hanover, on the west system and has a radio listening to OPS 2 you would hear it on the scanner. But if no one is registered (Listening) on the west system, You would not hear anything from OPS2. The system will not waste resources if there are no registered users on the system,

The OPS talkgroup name came from Cheif 50 a LONGGGG time ago.. They were named OPS in order to prevent confusion and "Ownership" of talkgroups.. ANY OPS talkgroup can be assigned to ANY incident regardless of location IF NEEDED. The Current plan was arranged for ease of remembering which groups are your NORMAL OPS groups.

I have a PRO-94 I am trying to program it for York Co's new system. Does any know what trunk system I should enter. I tried the UHF trunk system but I do not get anything. Thanks

I have been largely absent from the scanning scene for quite a while. So, to say I'm coming late to this new system is an understatement. My question is, is my PRO-90 capable of receiving a P25 system? The user manual says it is good for UHF-T band, but I'm not sure if that is the same. If this scanner will work, could someone point me in the right direction to figure out how to program it to work on the York system, as the manual doesn't seem to cover that. Thanks for any info.

The Pro-90 will not monitor the York or Dauphin systems (or any other P25) as they are digital systems and this is an analog scanner. I have a few analog models sitting around the house ready to become fossils myself...

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to get all 47 channels on the 5 towers into my PRO-106? Win500 isn't letting me get more than 32. Will this cause me to miss some things on the York system? I thought about putting this in the software forum, but it is kind of York specific.

I have been using PSR600 software and it allows me to put all the frequencies in. The 32 limit impacts manual entry as well.
