hello, first post.

I just joined because I have a few questions.

#1. This site provides two frequencies for york college 151.805 and 151.04... the york college security and maintenance describe using a third frequency?? does anyone know what it is? and what are the frequencies for york college?

#2. I live 13-14 miles north of the maryland line. am I too far to pick up baltimore county control channels?

#3. are there state police channels used by the york county state cops other than 155.505, 155.85 and 155.46??

thank you.

#2. It depends on where you are... I can get Baltimore County's 800mhz system at my home in Spry no problem (15 miles up)... but in Loganville (10 miles up), no deal. Give it a try. It will also depend on weather and atmospheric conditions.

ok, thankyou,

I was wondering because I have scanned the freqs for baltimore county before without hearing a single comment.

If it's any consolation, Baltimore County Fire still simulcasts their dispatch channel on 46.46.
When traveling up i-83 I can usually pick them up almost all the way to Harrisburg and sometimes even further north on i-81 on the mountain tops. I think the furthest I've heard them is around the Hegins exit.

I know you can listen to the Baltimore county,Carroll county, and Frederick county Trs's here in Dauphin county from any point 800 feet above sea level or higher. I also remember in the "olden" days from some mountain locations in northern York county I could listen to UHF repeaters all across Maryland including Baltimore city PD(when they were on 453), and DC PD(when they were on 460). Unfortunately, with todays new digital systems, once you get a little ways beyond the city limits the , the signals go to....(well, you know) I'm afraid that in the near future Baltimore county's switch to A25 will mean that it probably will not be able to be received up here in the land of taxes any more!! As far as the last remaining days of listening to the PSP goes, you might try 154.755 and 151.49 as these are used for special event tactical ops and occasionaly for helo surveillance ops(151.49) in the central PA area.

thanx, everyone

I guess I am thankful that york county and the surrounding area is still behind on switching to digital because if it already had, I might have been dissuaded from the daunting task of trying to listen to trunked or digital systems when I got into the hobby 10-13 years ago.

and from all the comments from this site, it seems I am safe with my analog scanners, at least for the york area, for a little while longer. I have no doubt that in my lifetime I will have to have a digital scanner.

about the PSP freqs... I was under the impression that the state of PA also used a set of 800 mhz frequencies and that the entire state or south central PA area had a set of 800 mhz frequencies set aside for mutual aid, or whatever the need. maybe I am naive??

also of interest...
since I live in york, I don't really need a trunking scanner yet, although I have one, but I actually took it to atlantic city to listen to the hotel comminications, and just about all the major hotels have 800-900 systems, as well as atlantic city itself and most of southern new jersey for that matter. pretty cool.

speaking of casinos, does the grantville casino have security freqs??

York County will be on there new radios within a few months for testing.

You will need the digital scanner sooner then you think.

PSP for all SC PA counties is already on the OpenSky Digital trunked system. Not monitorable via scanner.

York is one of the few areas that is simulcasting there Dispatch TG on the old VHF Hi system.

There is a set of nationwide 800MHz conventional repeater pairs for interop use. I don't know how many counties in your area would have repeaters active other than Baltimore and Cumberland.

LABEL Repeater Out / Repeater Input
ICALL 866.0125 MHz / 821.0125 MHz
ITAC1 866.5125 MHz / 821.5125 MHz
ITAC2 867.0125 MHz / 822.0125 MHz
ITAC3 867.5125 MHz / 822.5125 MHz
ITAC4 868.0125 MHz / 823.0125 MHz

Counties running 800MHz systems are required to provide one or more of these channels, although some places (like Philly) don't actually monitor the channels so I don't know what good they do in those cases.

FWIW, Chester County mainly uses the 800 repeaters for comms between FD and medevacs (Skycare, Pennstar). I've never heard them used for other purposes (ie. inter-county or inter-agency comms), although once, I did hear some PD surveillance traffic from Coatesville PD (I would've thought stuff like that would be simplex as opposed to repeated, but they were coming in loud and clear that night from Downingtown).

I can't speak to the other counties that Ben mentioned, but that's what they do out here. I would not be shocked if there was more use of the 800 I-Tacs once the state system is more fully operational.

Chester County uses the ITACs with a different PL and calls them their countywide "Interops" channels. The standard PL for the ITAC channels is 156.7 nationwide. Chesco uses 110.9 for their interops channels as intracounty conventional repeaters. I can't say I have ever heard any comms from Chester County on one of the actual ITAC channels (vs. their "Interops" channels). I'm sure they have the repeaters available with 156.7 PL, I just don't think they use them often, if at all. The Interops repeaters are often used, though.
