I'm sure some are using these already, but couldn't find any mention. A "wireless music adapter". It plugs in to any headphone jack and transmits the signal to your car stereo (or your home stereo). The sound is great, even with the windows down. I got one from Radio Shack, #12-2053. Also available online.

Interesting gadget. XM Radio now has a portable satellite receiver (MyFi) that can be used anywhere. The MyFi also has an internal internal wireless transmitter for use with your car or home stereo: http://xmradio.com/myfi/index.jsp

there are several brand and styles of these fm transmitters. some have the ability of setting the frequency they broadcast on, some have a switch to choose between four freqs. they cost between 29 and 99. as far as I know they have a standard headphone jack plug on them.

do a search on wireless fm transmitter and see what you get. I know i have seen them at RS, Circuit city, Bestbuy, etc

Luke, actually this is something I had never seen before. I wonder, if you used a "Y" splitter, could you feed two scanners in so one was left and the other right?

It's worth a try. I was just going to get another transmitter to run a second radio, less wires. I bet a splitter would work too.

You'd probably have to pay a bit extra to find a Y adapter that does that. Most of the ones that I've seen either take two stereo or two mono and output them to one stereo or one mono... which would give you both inputs on both speakers. I think you'd have to have one designed for separation... but I could be wrong.

You could always use a tape adapter kit thingamabob. It's the cassette tape that has the wire with the headphone jack on the end. You put the cassette into the player and plug the headphone jack into your scanner, and voila......

I might have found a use for my old boom box with the cassette player.

If you really want some volume, tune it to your home stereo. (I hope steve doesn't read this)

So, just for arguments sake.

Would using a FM transmitter on a scanner fall into the catagory od "Re-transmitting" communications without the authorization of the originator?

OK, so no one would ever catch you, but Just wondering!

I have one made by LineX. Transmit range is 150 feet. I set it up with my desktop scanner. This way I can listed to scanner traffic anywhere in the house or out in the yard on a small transistor radio and still have the benefit of my base antenna for better reception than I would get with my portable scanner.

a good cheaper version is something I have been doing for a while that is take one of those CD to Tape things that has a cassette with a wire that will play like a portable cd player on your stereo and use them just a small 4ft wire that sticks out of it.
